Welcome to your 8th grade Math class! I will be contacting parents via School Status. It is extremely important that the school always has your updated contact information. If you need to contact me for any reason, the best way would be through e-mail. You can use the above contact form.
Below you will find some of the important concepts we'll be studying in 7th Grade. Also, I try to have the week's homework assignments posted by Monday afternoon. Be sure to check it if there is any question about what a child should be completing for class. Materials needed for math class each day: 3-ring notebook to be used only for math. I specialize in tutoring Maths for school and test preparation. My way of explaining solutions to the problems will surely make the student get rid of the. 8 Dry Erase Markers- to be collected in AA for in class use. Colored Pencils (1 box of 12 or more)-AA teacher will collect for in class use. Scissors – will collect in AA and used as a class set for projects in each teacher’s room. Glue Sticks (3 or more) –AA teacher will collect for in class use.

We all will be using the Schoology platform this year. We all need to be prepared to learn if schools close! In this platform you will be notified of what assignments are due and when, and you will be able to submit them via Schoology. Schoology is the place to go for all information regarding your 8th grade Math class!
I am in my 10th year of teaching Math at Hernando Middle school. I graduated from The University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Math Education. I have been married to my husband, John, for thirty years! Rosie o'donnell 5 more years of trump meme. We have two daughters and one grandson. As a family we worship with the Life Fellowship Church in Southaven. I love many outdoor activities, adventure, watching movies and spending time with my family traveling.
I look forward to another great year at HMS!

Most weeks we take either a test of a quiz. Students are encouraged to make corrections (on another piece of paper, showing all work). The corrections should help students better understand the material and improve their grade.
POWs can be found under 'document manager' found on the left side of this page.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS: Parenthesis Exponents Multiplication & Division (done left to right as found in equation) Addition & Subtraction (done left to right as found in equation) You must compute answers within an equation in the above order or your answer will be inaccurate. Remember, negative signs count!
45 - (4 x 2)3
45 - (8)3
45 - 512
The sum of 2 positives is positive. The sum of 2 negatives is negative.
Example: -3 + -4 = -7
To add 2 integers with different signs, find the DIFFERENCE of their absolute values. The sum has the sign of the integer with the greater absolute value.
Example: -6 + 4 = -2 (6-4=2. There were more negatives when you started, so the answer is negative.)
To subtract an integer, add its opposite.
Example: - 4 - (-6) = +2 (change to -4 + (+6) then follow rules for adding integers)
The product of 2 integers with the same sign is positive.
Example: -6 x -3 = +18
The product of 2 integers with opposite signs is negative.
Example: +4 x (-2) = -8
The quotient of 2 integers with the same sign is positive.
Example: -35 divided by -7 = +5
The quotient of 2 integers with opposite signs is negative.
Example: -16 divided by +2 = -8
To solve an equation for x, do the INVERSE operation of the term that is on the same side of the equal sign as the x. This inverse number must be done on BOTH sides of the equation.
ex. x-8 = -2
x - 8 +8 = -2 +8
x = 6
To solve a 2-step equation, first do the inverse of the constant term, THEN do the inverse of variable term.
ex. 3x + 4 = 16
3x + 4 + (-4) = 16 + (-4)
3x = 12
3x (divided by 3) = 12 (divided by 3)
x = 4
A SEQUENCE is a set of numbers that follows a pattern. Each number in a sequence is called a TERM.
Two types of sequences are Arithmetic Sequences & Geometric Sequences. An Arithmetic Sequence is found by adding a fixed number to the previous term (the number might be negative). A Geometric Sequence is found by multiplying the previous term by a fixed number (the number might be a fraction).
To add polynomials, add the coefficients of the like terms.
ex. (3x + 4) + (-5x + 2) = (3+ -5)x + (4 + 2)
= -2x + 6
To subtract polynomials, keep the first polynomial, but negate each term of the second polynomial, then combine.
ex. (3x + 4) - (-5x + 2) = (3x + 4) -(-5x) -(2)
= 3x + 4 +5x -2
= 8x + 2
PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM- used to find the third side of a right triangle
2 2 2
a + b = c
(a squared, plus b squared, equals c squared; where a and b are legs of the right triangle, and c is the hypotenuse.)
