Use “Plug-ins Table of Contents Create From Bookmarks” menu to insert a table of contents into the currently open document. This operation inserts new page(s) into the document by printing hierarchical bookmark titles as text.   • Text style for the headings (entries without sub-items). Press “Headings…” button to edit this style.
  • Visual appearance of links that are automatically added to table of content entries. Press “Hyperlink…” button to edit this style.
  • Line spacing between table of contents headings. Use “Line Spacing” entry to specify the spacing to use. This value is specified in points (72 points equals to 1 inch). The default value is 5.
  • Level offset – the horizontal offset for each level of the table of contents hierarchy. Each level of the table of contents is shifted by this distance to the right side of the page. The default value is 32.

Press “Reset” button to set all parameters to its default values. Use “Save Settings…” and “Load Settings…” button to save and load settings into the file for later use. Settings are saved into files with *.toc extension.

  • The page number where to insert a table of contents pages
  • Check “Determine page size from the document” option to use the dimensions of the first page from the current PDF document to create pages for the table of contents.
  • If “Determine page size from the document” option is OFF, then use “Page size” and “Orientation” menus to select a desired page size for the table of contents pages.
  • Use “Page margins” entries to specify margins on the table of contents pages.
  • Use “First bookmark level to include into TOC” entry to specify the first level of the bookmark hierarchy to use for the table of contents. Levels start from 1.
  • Use “Last bookmark level to include into TOC” entry to specify the last level of the bookmark hierarchy to use for the table of contents. Levels start from 1.
  • Check “Skip bookmarks without actions” to ignore bookmarks that have no actions assigned.

Select 'Page Numbering' tab of the settings dialog to specify all parameters related to displaying destination page numbers in table of contents entries.

  1. Check 'Add page numbers to the page of contents entries' option to display page numbers for each table of contents entry that points to a page in the current PDF document. If this option is unchecked, then page numbers are not included into the table of contents.
  2. If the above option is checked, then it is possible to select the page number type and display style. There are three possible selections for the page numbers:
    1. Page Labels - custom page labels as displayed in the 'Page Thumbnails' navigation panel and in the 'current page number' box in Adobe Acrobat. Page labels can contain any kind of text, not only decimal numbers. It is possible to create page labels of different style within one PDF document. By default, all pages in the PDF document are assigned page labels that are equal to their page numbers (1,2,3.).
    2. Original Page Numbers - physical page numbers (starting from 1) for the pages before the table of contents is inserted into the document. If this option is selected, then it is possible to specify a 'Page Offset'. Page offset is an integer number (positive or negative) that will be added to the original page numbers before displaying in the table of contents. You can use this parameter to perform any necessary adjustments to the page numbering.
    3. Bates Numbers - are special kind of identification numbers that can be added to PDF pages by 'Add Bates Numbering' function in Adobe Acrobat. If there are no Bates numbers assigned to the pages, then the corresponding page number will be blank. Please note that it is possible to have multiple Bates numbers assigned to the same page. This operation will only display a latest Bates number.
  3. There are 4 different page number display styles available:
    1. 'Chapter......1'
    2. 'Chapter . . . . . .1'
    3. 'Chapter______1'
    4. 'Chapter 1'
  4. The 'Reserved area width for page numbers' is a parameter that controls hopw much area on the page is allocated for displying page numbers. The heading text will automatically wrap once it reached this offset from the right margin of the page. Increase this number to control where the heading text is wrapped.
  5. There are 5 different methods how table of contents pages can be labeled. Pages are displayed in the 'Page Thumbnails' navigation panel and in the 'current page number' box in Adobe Acrobat. Page labels can contain any kind of text, not only decimal numbers.
    1. Decimal numbers, such 1,2,3,4
    2. Upper case Roman numerals, such as I, II, III, IV, V,.X
    3. Lower case Roman numerals, such as i, ii, iii, iv,. x
    4. Upper case alphabetic labels, such as A, B, C, D,..
    5. Lower case alphabetic labels, such as a, b, c, d,..
    Optionally, a text prefix can be added before auto-incrementing numbers. For example, TOC-i, TOC-ii and etc.
